“Not knowing everything is all that makes it OK, sometimes…”

The Sandman is a graphic novel series that helped create and define the genre/format. Gaiman’s quintessential book of gods and goddesses, magical realism, and fantastic journeys- If you want a Gaiman graphic novel, this is the place to start. The first book is called Preludes and Nocturnes and follow’s Death’s younger brother Dreams (otherwise known as Morpheus) as he tries to reclaim his magical objects after a 70 year imprisonment by a man who wanted to capture death and cheat immortality. In his journeys, he encounters Lucifer, John Constantine, and a madman. Each character is fully developed and memorable. The book mixes reality and mysticism, humor and the macabre with a deftness that only Gaiman has achieved with such gusto for decades now. Once you’ve read Preludes and Nocturnes, be sure to pick up the second book in the series…. and the third… and the fourth…
